Now you may be asking what the big deal about direct current is. Didn’t Edison lose the “War of the Currents”? IT equipment is powered by direct current (DC) through 12Vdc interfaces and 1.XVdc converter systems on the motherboard. The use of DC creates the opportunity to improve efficiency of the overall distribution system by eliminating problematic AC artifacts, phase angle, frequency, and power factor. A direct current (DC) system has a higher reliability than similar AC systems. The use of DC ultimately reduces power loss in the server allowing more servers to operate in a data center.
EDCS Power (EDCS) production units are a, 100kW DC-UPS that converts 480Vac into distributable +/-190Vdc power for use in the data center. Additionally a converter system that takes +/-190Vdc input and converts it into 12Vdc usable in data center applications. The 12Vdc power supply can range from 1200W to 36kW per rack.
