Ceph is a massively scalable, open source, distributed storage system.
It is comprised of an object store, block store, and a POSIX-compatible distributed file system. The platform is capable of auto-scaling beyond the exabyte level, it runs on commodity hardware, it is self-healing and self-managing, and has no single point of failure. Ceph is in the Linux kernel and is currently being integrated with the OpenStack cloud operating system. DreamHost is the principal sponsor of the open source Ceph project. As a result of its open source nature, this portable storage platform may be installed and used in public or private clouds.
While there are a number of ways to install Ceph, we offer a simple installation guide for small scale clusters and proof-of-concept testing. If you would like to deploy at scale, please investigate our deployment frameworks or contact a Ceph vendor for help.
