Cisco Open NX-OS Demo Part 2 – Open Network Programmability with NX-API REST
After part one’s introduction to Cisco NX-OS, the Cisco Open NX-OS Demo Part 2 dives deeper into the topic of network programmability as it highlights the NX-API Rest and the Object Model to create scalable and reliable networks. Cisco Product Manager Shane Corban and Director of Technical Marketing and Solutions Engineering Ranga Rao explain why the NX-API Rest can be used for a myriad of as activities since due to its utilization of a more robust model-based approach that addresses the weaknesses of general SCLI and avoids sequencing errors.
Core business challenges such as scalability, provisioning, and deployment time are encountered by network teams daily. Leveraging the NX-API REST and the Object Model enables users to overcome such obstacles and, more importantly, to avoid human error from manual models. The power of Object Model/NX-API REST used in ACI combined with the Open NX-OS is its ability to provide true programmability and control through an advanced framework for network control. This allows organizations to accelerate the DevOps model approach and quickly respond to increasing business demands. Mastering the limitations of CLI such as screen caping, automation tool performance, and sequencing are the focus of the Cisco Open NX-OS Demo Part 2.
The NX-Toolkit is a set of python libraries that permits basic configuration of the Cisco Nexus Switch. It is designed to facilitate and accelerate the usage of the REST API. The result is a reduced learning curve which enables users to quickly start utilizing the switch. Instead of having to manually create the objects, the NX-Toolkit automatically creates objects for us. All we need to do is call a function.
