Dave Ward is the CTO of Engineering and Chief Architect at Cisco Systems. He is responsible for architectural governance, defining the strategy and leading the development of new technology and inspired research. Dave works via tight partnerships with customers, partners, developers and academia to co-develop and co-innovate across a wide range of initiatives. He is an active board member of several open source communities including ONOS, OpenDaylight and OpenStack. Previously, Dave served as the Routing Area Director at the IETF and chair of four working groups: IS-IS, HIP, BFD and Softwires. He also worked with the ITU-T, ONF and several Open Source consortiums. Prior to Cisco, Dave was a Juniper Fellow and Chief Architect responsible for their operating system and next-generation routing systems. In his spare time, David manages a small vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains and an heirloom tomato farm along the St. Croix River in Somerset, Wisconsin.
