Akamai Drops $600M on Guardicore Microsegmentation

Content delivery network vendor Akamai acquired microsegmentation vendor Guardicore for approximately $600 million in a bid to combat the rampant spread of ransomware.

The Tel Aviv, Israel-based company’s platform is designed to limit user access to only those applications to which they are authorized. Akamai claims the technology is complementary to its zero-trust security push and will help to limit the spread of malware across the network.

“Given the recent surge in ransomware attacks and increasingly stringent compliance regulations, investing in technologies to reduce the spread of malware has become mission critical,” Akamai CEO Tom Leighton said in a statement. “By adding Cloudicore’s leading microsegmentation products to Akamai’s comprehensive portfolio of zero-trust solutions, we believe Akamai will be able to provide the most effective way to combat ransomware on the market today.”

Snyk Says $8.5B Valuation ‘Validates Developer-Security Vision’

Snyk’s valuation skyrocketed to $8.5 billion in the wake of a $530 million Series F funding round that included about $300 million in new capital.

In addition to the new funds, the Series F also included secondary offerings, according to the developer-focused security vendor. This brings its total raised to $775 million, and Snyk more than tripled its valuation compared to $4.7 billion at the beginning of the year.

“This new investment, together with the rapid adoption of our platform and growing customer base, validates our developer security vision,” Snyk CEO Peter McKay said in a statement. “When security starts with the world’s expanding pool of developers — estimated to reach 45 million by 2030 — organizations of all sizes will be able to truly reap the rewards of digital transformation, while also making the world’s software safer.”
