Combined McAfee-FireEye Cybersecurity Giant Rebrands as TrellixThe combined McAfee Enterprise and FireEye cybersecurity venture has a new name — Trellix — but it remains focused on dominating the lucrative extended detection and response (XDR) market by enabling organizations to adopt what CEO Bryan Palma calls “living security.”
The $2 billion company’s new name also reflects this concept, Palma said in an interview with SDxCentral.
“Metaphors of battle really dominate cybersecurity,” he said. “And that was great in the days when you used to have to put up a perimeter and keep bad guys out, but I just see it as crazy how some of our competitors talk about stopping breaches — it’s just not the world we’re in today.”
Breaches will happen, and the attack surface is becoming much larger and more complex, Palma said. “Threats are getting way more sophisticated. You’ve got to be able to learn and adapt and respond.”
Orca Dives Into API Security With RapidSec BuyOrca Security moved into API security with its first-ever acquisition: RapidSec, an Israeli cybersecurity startup that protects web applications from client-side attacks.
The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the deal. RapidSec raised $500,000 in a pre-seed funding round in 2020.
The acquisition comes on the heels of Orca’s $550 million extended Series C round, which boosted its valuation to about $1.8 billion. “And there might be others in the future,” Orca Security CEO Avi Shua told SDxCentral.
“The main parameter for us when we look at M&A is the ability to have a real integration into the platform,” he said. “It’s very easy to buy companies. It’s extremely hard to integrate them in a way that’s valuable for the customers.”
