Cisco Invests in Enterprise Browser Startup Island

Cisco Investments pumped new funds into tech startup Island, joining a handful of backers betting on its enterprise-focused browser technology.

Island launched its Enterprise Browser in February. It was built by Island co-founders Mike Fey and Dan Amiga wanting to provide enterprises with control over its browser environment, which is traditionally made for the consumer market rather than an enterprise one, according to a Cisco Investments blog.

The Island Enterprise Browser simplifies the security stack, gives an enterprise complete policy control, and delivers a “more efficient, safer, and productive browsing environment,” according to the blog.

Arista Plucks Pluribus to Boost Telco Cloud Fabric

Data center switch giant Arista Networks purchased smaller rival Pluribus Networks in a move that further bolsters its cloud fabric ambitions and provides Arista with a greater presence in the telecom space.

The deal was announced as part of Arista’s second-quarter financial release. Terms of the Pluribus deal were not released, though Pluribus had raised $137 million across seven funding rounds, according to Crunchbase.

Arista CEO Jayshree Ullal specifically touted Pluribus’ work in extending cloud fabric platforms into the telecom space.

Expereo Acquires Breeze Networks to Expand SASE, SD-WAN Reach

Managed network provider Expereo has acquired British service provider Breeze Networks to expand its range of services across the globe. Breeze provisions cloud-based SD-WAN and secure access service edge (SASE) technologies for enterprises and government agencies.

Netherlands-based Expereo pursued the acquisition because of the company’s “active M&A outlook for organizations that help to strengthen [its] existing brand proposition,” Expereo CEO Irwin Fouwels told SDxCentral in an email. “Breeze Networks is an interesting organization due to their strength in SD-WAN and SASE technology, which will complement Expereo’s SD-WAN practice,” he added.

Breeze CTO Matthew Lea will serve as technical portfolio lead as part of Expereo’s technical team led by CTO Kristaps Petrovskis. Lea will drive Expereo’s expansion plans for its SD-WAN and SASE practice, “particularly within the UK, a key market for growth,” according to Fouwels.
