Boulder, Colorado-based competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) Zayo will begin offering software-defined wide area networking (SD-WAN) to its enterprise customers.

The move comes as little surprise. During the company's fiscal first quarter 2018 earnings call last November, President and COO Andrew Crouch alluded to a coming SD-WAN offering. when he said that Zayo had a “plan to launch our SD-WAN product in the first quarter 2018,” according to the Seeking Alpha transcript.

Zayo’s SD-WAN helps bolster the company's enterprise WAN offerings. The company will offer flexible provisioning. Customers can choose from packages that offer either managed or unmanaged SD-WAN. It will also incorporate Zayo's IP/MPLS, Internet, or LTE connectivity into primary and multi-path configurations.

Zayo's SD-WAN also is able to prioritize traffic at the application level and can integrate with both Internet and IP-VPN connections.

Enterprise customers can monitor traffic via a portal or Zayo can manage the traffic and the network.

Zayo has 126,000 miles of fiber in North America and Europe, connecting about 24,000 buildings and data centers. In addition it has a number of dark fiber, wavelength, and Ethernet offerings. Its network was most recently expanded by its acquisition of Spread Networks, gaining its 825-mile fiber route from New York to Chicago.
