VMware’s VeloCloud SD-WAN platform scored another customer win as GE Healthcare tapped the vendor to provide its customers with low-latency access to its cloud-based health care services.
The SD-WAN vendor is the first to integrate with GE Healthcare’s OnWatch Network Edge platform, VMware claims.
“Patient monitoring and diagnostic data analysis are moving from the data center to the edge. With this shift, health care providers and their technology partners require a software-defined, high-performance, secure network,” said Sanjay Uppal, SVP and GM of service provider and edge at VMware, in a statement.
GE Healthcare offers a wide array of health care applications delivered both on-premises or from the cloud. The company’s OnWatch platform, announced earlier this year, offers automated monitoring of critical subsystems within medical imaging equipment like CT scanners, interventional systems, and mammography machines to name just a few. If the platform detects any anomalies or deviations from the norm, it alerts GE engineers, thus allowing them to diagnose and remediate issues.
To deliver these services to customers without compromising application performance or the security of patient records, GE Healthcare integrated the OnWatch Network Edge platform with VMware's SD-WAN technology.
"OnWatch Network Edge provides an easy way to deploy these large-scale integrations quickly and more securely," Paul Jones, global product manager at GE Healthcare, said in a statement. Meanwhile, "VMware's SD-WAN technology reliable deployment of latency sensitive and data-sensitive applications."
The integration builds on an existing relationship between VMware and GE Healthcare. Previously the company integrated VMware’s AIOps — acquired last year with the purchase of Nyansa — and Edge Network Intelligence platforms with OnWatch. The offering allowed health care providers to analyze and monitor their enterprise and clinical networks.
