Veritas announced availability of its Enterprise Data Services Platform for VMware environments running on-premises or in any of the major public clouds including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.

“IT environments are becoming increasingly more complex while the volume of data continues to grow exponentially,” said Jyothi Swaroop, VP of product and solution marketing at Veritas, in an emailed response to questions. “As a result, data now lives in more and more places — on premises, on devices, and in multiple clouds — which makes it challenging to maintain high levels of application availability, maintain business resiliency (such as from ransomware attacks hitting local governments across the country), and stay compliant with all of today’s data regulations.”

The enterprise data protection and software-defined storage company launched its Enterprise Data Services Platform earlier this summer. With today's announcement it brings hybrid and multi-cloud environments at scale to VMware customers.

“It simplifies insights by providing customers with the ability to view everything from a single pane of glass. In other words, the integration with VMware vRealize Automation and vRealize Orchestration provides VMware customers with insights into their full environment in one place,” said Swaroop.

VMware Joins Veritas’ Cloud Party

The platform, which  is powered by NetBackup 8.2, includes Veritas InfoScale to manage performance and availability, Veritas Information Studio for visibility and analysis, and APTARE for aggregated visibility and access to insights to optimize operations and stay compliant with changing regulations.

According to Swaroop, NetBackup 8.2 works with 500 data sources and over 150 storage targets, including 60 cloud providers to ensure enterprises data is protected.

“It provides one of the fastest backups across each of the major cloud providers. NetBackup 8.2 covers a wide array of functionalities including backup, orchestration, cataloging and replication of data,” Swaroop said.

In addition to providing data protection and recovery, the platform also provides insights around operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.

Competitive Landscape

Veritas faces a competitive data management landscape with vendors including Commvault, Dell EMC, IBM, Rubrik, Cohesity, and Veeam, but Swaroop contends that “what sets us apart from them is our focus.”

“We are laser focused on data protection and providing our customers with support for all their data, no matter where it lives,” Swaroop added. “And that’s why 99 of the Fortune 100 rely on us for their data protection needs.”
