… Big Switch Networks announced partnership with In-Q-Tel, an independent strategic investment firm that provides innovative technology products for U.S. Intelligence Community projects. Could the collaboration mean Big Switch will find new users in the U.S. government?
… The creators of Orchard and Fig are joining the Docker team. Fig has been called the “perfect Docker companion for developers,” thanks to its simplified way to orchestrate the deployment of multi-container applications. Also exciting? … Catbird, which automates security policy for VMware environments, extended that capability to OpenStack and the KVM hypervisor. It’s all part of the Q4, 2014 release of Catbird 6.0 with support for OpenStack of the company’s software, launched this week, and was done at the behest of one large carrier customer, CEO Edmundo Costa says. Support for Microsoft Hyper-V is forthcoming, along with support for firewalls beyond Cisco’s and VMware’s.
… AT&T announced it will bring Alcatel-Lucent and Fujitsu Network Communications Inc. on as its newest vendors. These two companies will join Juniper Networks as the newest suppliers to work with AT&T to create the User-Defined Network Cloud. The goal of the User-Defined Network Cloud is to help customers embrace a modern, cloud-based architecture network. … IBM is making high performance computing (HPC) more readily available for clients struggling with big data and other computationally intensive activities. SoftLayer will now offer industry standard InfiniBand networking technology to connect SoftLayer bare metal servers. Now workloads traditionally associated with HPC will be able to move to the cloud.
