LiveAction said that it will debut its first dedicated hardware appliance for its LiveNX monitoring platform next month. The LiveNX server appliance release is a result of its recent acquisition of packet monitoring provider Savvius.
“With our acquisition of Savvius we are working to enable network monitoring across all data sources,” said Darren Kimura, chief strategy officer and vice chairman at LiveAction. These data sources include packet level analysis, configuration and network data (which includes flow, simple network management platform (SNMP), APIs, and streaming telemetry). The Savvius engineering team helped specify the hardware and optimize and test the server image for bare metal installation.
“Savvius has decades of experience combining hardware with software and optimizing that performance,” said Kimura. Savvius has a hardware appliance for packet capture and monitoring as well as a standalone software for packet appliance. At the time of the acquisition, LiveAction said these capabilities of Savvius would be integrated with its monitoring platforms for deeper insights.
The LiveNX Server Appliance gives LiveAction’s customers a new option to deploy the LiveNX platform. Kimura said that this option offers greater command over the entire platform and enables network teams to obtain the server compute power and management required for them to scale the network. It can process over one million flows per second.
With the appliance, customers get a fast deployment option and better performance. This improves service level agreement reporting and helps with analytics processing.
LiveNX visualizes application performance on the network to reduce the time to repair components and deploy new components. The visualizations also provide a unified view as well as insights and recommendations to optimize overall network performance.
The platform is also designed to monitor SD-WAN environments. Prior to deploying SD-WAN, LiveNX will baseline performance by site, device, application, and user. It will also verify and validate routes, paths, and flows to ensure the network design delivers optimized performance. The server appliance extends these capabilities by increasing the data processing ability — a vital feature for large volumes of data in SD-WAN environments.
Additionally, the LiveNX server appliance will help with existing partnerships — particularly with Cisco —by improving the visibility and analytics associated with deploying Cisco-Viptela SD-WAN and Cisco DNA-Center integrations. It also provides additional SD-WAN monitoring for Viptela, Nokia Nuage, and others; and integrates with Viptela, Nuage, and Cisco’s network services orchestrator.
