Software provider LiveAction acquired the service provider network monitoring technology of LivingObjects, a Toulouse, France-based software developer. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
According to Darren Kimura, the executive chairman of LiveAction, his company serves large enterprises, and its platform LiveNX was built from enterprise customer feedback. “Over time we realized the needs of the large enterprise are fundamentally different from the needs of a service provider,” he said in an email to SDxCentral.
The team and technology of LivingObjects will become LiveAction’s Service Provider Business Unit. Its network monitoring platform manages tens of thousands of enterprise customers daily across 100,000 managed routers. Upon closing, the LivingObjects technology will be upgraded and released as LiveSP.
LiveSP will be a cloud-first, multi-tenant monitoring platform, providing customized reports on network KPIs. The platform will support a variety of applications and serve LiveAction’s partnerships with Cisco, Corvil, Gigamon, and Palo Alto Networks. It will provide additional software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) monitoring for Cisco IWAN, Viptela, Nuage, and others; and it will integrate with Viptela, Nokia Nuage, and Cisco NSO.
Kimura noted the software-defined movement has changed network management and requires service providers to be more agile and flexible. “We now find different environments managed by controllers, and the service provider is forced to have to ingest the data, normalize it, compare it, and deliver insights from it,” he said.
LivingObjects Founder and CEO Bertrand Le Marec will become the VP of the service provider business unit. Le Marec selected the remaining members of the unit.
The acquisition will also strengthen LiveAction’s European footprint, as LivingObjects has industry experience in the region, as well as in the service provider market. Both the U.S. and European teams will be cross-trained on LiveNX and LiveSP.
“Our focus is to help our service provider customers make their value clear to their enterprise customers,” said Kimura. “We bring them simple and easy-to-use tools and technologies we have developed, which includes faster troubleshooting, advanced network visualizations, and better reporting.”
LiveAction’s LiveNX monitoring platform was recently expanded to increase SD-WAN performance, visibility of network endpoints, and end-user experience.
