Intel Security will partner with Ericsson to offer a managed security service to telcos for resale to enterprise customers, building on a number of recent deals between the chipmaker and mobile network infrastructure giant.

Intel Security, formed through Intel's acquisition of McAfee in 2010, will provide intrusion prevention and email/web security software and appliances for Ericsson to white label for telcos.

The deal follows a last month's agreement between Intel and Ericsson to build hyperscale data centers for service providers.

Intel, which has struggled in the mobile chip market, stands to deepen its ties to mobile infrastructure through the partnerships, while Ericsson braces its security offerings and defends market share ahead of the pending combination of competitors Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent.

"Ericsson is already a pretty substantial client for Intel," says Tyson Macaulay, Intel Security’s vice president of global telecommunications. "That relationship is growing year by year. You can expect to see more along these lines."
