IBM Cloud suffered a widespread outage that took services and websites hosted on the public cloud provider down for several hours Tuesday afternoon.

"IBM is focused on external network provider issues as the cause of the disruption of IBM Cloud services yesterday," a spokesperson for IBM wrote in an email to SDxCentral. "All services have been restored and a detailed review is underway to determine the specific cause and address issues that led to the outage."

Tracking services reported a surge in errors shortly before 6 p.m. in the Eastern time zone. And on Twitter, users reported issues accessing websites hosted on the platform, including IBM's own cloud status page, for a period of about four hours.

IBM later acknowledged the disruption in a post on Twitter. "We are aware of reported IBM Cloud outages, we are investigating and service will be restored as soon as possible," the company wrote.

IBM's cloud status page, which has since been restored, reported a flurry of outages affecting numerous cloud services. Cloud Platform, Watson AI, Kubernetes, and IBM's content delivery network, were among the more than two dozen services affected by the outage.

The company steadied performance within four hours of the initial disruption, and reported that all IBM Cloud services were up and running.

IBM hasn't yet said how many customers were impacted by the outage.
