GTT Communications announced an expansion of its 5G solution to provide managed fixed wireless connectivity to enterprises in the U.S., enabling internet connectivity for primary and backup applications with an unlimited data plan.

Enterprises will also now be able to automatically move calls to a stronger 5G network in cases of signal loss. GTT 5G services offer fixed wireless broadband internet, which is delivered with a premise-based device that selects the appropriate 5G network through dual SIM cards from different mobile operators.

Product Marketing Leader Eric Hyman explained this means if a signal problem occurs, GTT’s service teams can swap from SIM 1 to SIM 2 without requiring an onsite technical dispatch.

"With this solution, GTT is providing inherent resiliency due to 5G to 4G dual connectivity as well as a dual SIM," he told SDxCentral.

5G Fixed Wireless Revenue to hit $3.6B in 2025.

According to GTT, there is an increasing demand for 5G as a primary, supplemental, or backup fixed wireless connection. Research firm Gartner estimates 5G enterprise fixed wireless access revenue will grow at a 177% four-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2021 through 2025, reaching $3.6 billion in 2025.

"We have already seen GTT customers tout the benefits of 5G when they have needed a rapid deployment of internet services that could not wait for the construction time associated with delivering wireline broadband," Hyman said. "This is particularly beneficial to retailers opening new locations."

5G fixed wireless access can serve as a primary connection, replacing legacy wireline broadband service, GTT said in announcement, adding “for branches, regional offices, and headquarters, companies will use fixed wireless access for backup or to supplement their wide area networks such as software-defined wide area networks (SD-WAN).”

“Over the next few years, many more enterprises will be looking to 5G for reliable access to the internet, enabling a powerful connectivity choice for branch locations, regional offices and headquarters,” said GTT COO Don MacNeil in the announcement.
