Cisco announced Monday that it’s adding big data analytics startup ParStream to its Internet of Things (IoT) portfolio.
With main offices in Cupertino, California and Cologne, Germany, ParStream is a privately held company that specializes in building databases for IoT environments. ParStream, which is led by CEO Peter Jensen, first launched four years ago and has previously taken part in the Cisco Entrepreneurs in Residence startup program.
By using compression and indexing features, ParStream helps customers access large volumes of data faster and at scale, according to a blog post by Cisco’s Rob Salvagno, vice president of business development.
Financial terms of the deal, which is slated to close by the end of January, weren’t available.
Once the acquisition is completed, ParStream would be folded into Cisco’s analytics and automation portfolio, joining the data and analytics group.
IoT is a big area of focus for Cisco as it moves beyond its traditional markets of routers and switches. At a Cisco event earlier this month, Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins spoke about the IoT verticals that the company is targeting, which included manufacturing, transportation, utilities, and oil and gas.
