At this rate, we should just set up a weekly “Big Switch Executive Hires” roundup.
Today, the company is announcing it’s hired Shaun Page out of Juniper as vice president of worldwide sales.
Page arrives on the heels of Rajeev Gupta, another hire from Juniper, who’s tasked with managing Big Switch’s channel relationships.
Page has a long background in service-provider markets, having arrived at Juniper 13 years ago in the Unisphere acquisition. But most recently, he worked in strategic alliances for Juniper, talking to a lot of Web 2.0-type data-center operators — experience that’s more likely to come in handy at Big Switch.
The sales channel is big among Japanese customers, and that makes it important to Big Switch. The company’s best traction is coming from Asia, Japan in particular, and customers there often rely on channel distributors to help gather and assemble pieces — in this case, Big Switch’s software and the bare-metal switches it’s meant to run on.
“I do strategically want to start building out a partner ecosystem, for those cases where people want to get bare metal switches to go with our software,” Murray says.
