Aerohive Networks will debut cloud-access management software for mobile devices early in the second quarter. The new product, Aerohive A3, will provide onboarding, security, management, and control for connected devices including Internet of Things (IoT) and bring your own device (BYOD), the company said.
The management tool will also automate device provisioning, device profiling, and network access control, in addition to onboarding and guest access, the company said.
When asked to specify what devices, Milind Pansare, director of corporate marketing and strategic alliances at Aerohive Networks, said the product works with “any mobile devices that connect to the WiFi or wired network — for example mobile phones, laptops, POS devices, IoT devices, and scanners. Any device in a campus or branch office that needs network access.”
It will be compatible with network equipment from “all major vendors,” according to the company. And it can integrate with Aerohive’s combined software-defined local area network (SD-LAN) and software-defined wide area networking (SD-WAN) platform.
Aerohive A3 will initially be sold as on-premises software. In the future it will be available as a cloud service as part of the Aerohive Cloud Services platform. Customers can also configure a combination of the two, with certain functions distributed to remote premises and others centrally managed from the public or private cloud.
At press time Pansare didn’t specify which clouds the product would support, other than “public cloud, private cloud, and on-premises network management solution.”
The new product aims to simplify device setup and ongoing management, Pansare said.
“Securing mobile connected devices in a wireless-first world has traditionally been a complex endeavor with a plethora of complex, disparate, NAC [network access control] and MDM [mobile device management] solutions layered over a wireless network management solution,” Pansare wrote in an email. “Aerohive aims to dramatically simplify this problem with an integrated cloud managed solution that reduces cost and complexity of access layer network management.”
