A10 Networks today debuted its Harmony Controller, which allows businesses to manage applications across multiple data centers and clouds from a central location.
The company has been talking about “cloud harmony” since it acquired startup Apcito in July 2016. The new Harmony Controller, A10 says, achieves this goal.
The product is based on Apcito’s cloud services controller that A10 rebranded and launched as the Lightning Application Delivery Services (ADS) in November 2016. The Harmony Controller extends the capabilities of Lightning ADS and “harmonizes” performance and security management, orchestration, and analytics across on-site and cloud applications.
It can be deployed as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, or as a self-managed, on-premise option.
It also offers native multicloud support for elastic load balancing and web application firewall across these hybrid environments, said Paul Nicholson, director of product marketing for A10 Networks. While Lightning ADS can be used to manage applications running on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure, Harmony Controller adds Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to the public-cloud list.
“This new controller can do more, and it is available on more cloud platforms than ever before,” Nicholson said.
It also comes as a growing number of companies are managing applications across multiple clouds. According to cloud management provider RightScale’s State of the Cloud 2017, 85 percent of enterprises currently have a multicloud strategy, up from 82 percent in 2016.
In addition to allowing for public- and private-cloud application management, Harmony Controller provides analytics for A10's Thunder ACD and Lightning products, as well as HAProxy open source load balancers.
“With analytics, the details traditionally aren’t very rich,” Nicholson said. “The Harmony Controller takes this data and makes it more meaningful.”
The controller offers analytics on a per-application, per-URL and per-request basis. This, according to an A10 blog post about the new product, provides “granular, centralized visibility and actionable intelligence across your entire application portfolio, including your cloud applications…Granular visibility empowers you to make better security decisions, while achieving better application performance, which ultimately leads to improved customer satisfaction and swifter ROI.”
