The Linux Foundation has announced the establishment of LF India to promote open source collaboration within the country. This initiative aims to engage Indian developers, enterprises, and government organizations in various open source projects, including cloud native technologies, telecommunications, and AI.
With nearly 200,000 developers in India already contributing to Linux Foundation projects, LF India is positioned to enhance the region’s innovation landscape. The foundation plans to provide training and support to foster local developer skills, alongside hosting events and meetups to encourage participation.
Jim Zemlin, Executive Director of the Linux Foundation, emphasized the initiative's importance in advocating for open source technologies through partnerships with the government and other stakeholders. This growth aligns with India’s trajectory to become the world’s largest developer community by 2028, driven by the nation’s commitment to technological advancement and public infrastructure.
Arpit Joshipura, Head of LF India, highlighted the focus on collaborative innovation within open source, aiming to create significant global impact stemming from local initiatives. Launch events like KubeCon + CloudNativeCon India are set to elevate discussions and partnerships in the field.
