Thanks to all who joined us for the SD-WAN Strategies for Success – An SDxCentral Analyst Event, where SDxCentral explained why SD-WAN is such a hot topic, along with Comcast Business who recently announced their groundbreaking SD-WAN offering. After the webinar, we took questions from the audience but unfortunately ran out of time before we could answer everybody’s questions. You can read the full Q&A below.
Comcast Business believes that customers need a unified, intuitive Digital Experience, especially when looking beyond SD-WAN. The ability to see and manage all of their services within a single experience is operationally essential
What’s the SD-WAN transport? Fiber SIP, Coax or Hardware?
Comcast’s transport (underlay) can be either Coax or Fiber based. SIP does not apply (that is a Voice protocol). Rather – for SD-WAN transport we can leverage a combination of Internet Access products that range from our own Fiber/Coax Internet access solutions, or third party Internet access, including those delivered over DSL (if necessary). The key is that our SD-WAN solution was built intentionally to be a pure Over the Top solution.
From a customer point of view, can everything be managed centrally?
Absolutely! That was the intent of our design approach.
Which orchestrator do you use that a VNF needs to integrate with? Who supplies the VNF Manager? The VNF vendor or the Orchestrator vendor?
The Orchestrator layer is a combination of components within our BSS/OSS back end. Versa (our primary SD-WAN VNF supplier) is a playing a role. Our SD-WAN partner is Versa. There are several pure play “orchestrator” vendors in the Market – but we have opted for a more deeply integrated approach.
