Download the case study, “Swisscom Builds OpenStack Cloud Possibilities with Red Hat.”
Switzerland’s leading telecommunications provider, Swisscom, has a history of adopting open source solutions and promoting collaborative work when possible. Investing early in a cloud strategy to consolidate application development and isolate cloud resources onto one platform, the company knew it needed to provide a secure place to store its exploding data. To fill that need and build a flexible and unified foundation for its cloud platform, Swisscom needed a partner.
A new case study discusses how Swisscom chose Red Hat to gain enterprise-ready open source technology and access to extensive guidance and expertise. With help from Red Hat Consulting, Swisscom deployed Red Hat® OpenStack® Platform and Red Hat Enterprise Linux® to create a robust Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) for simplifying its cloud environment. The company also implemented Red Hat Virtualization to deploy OpenStack virtually, rather than on bare metal, making adding or integrating new components easier.
Using Red Hat’s elastic IaaS OpenStack foundation, Swisscom launched its Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offering. These “as-a-service” solutions form the company’s application cloud. Swisscom’s PaaS offering lets the company provide self-service capabilities to its customers. The open nature of Red Hat’s solution also gives Swisscom access to a broader technology ecosystem.
The new case study shows that Swisscom’s new, simplified cloud environment has helped the company achieve faster, more agile development and easily scaled applications in response to customer demand. The Red Hat solution has also brought positive changes to Swisscom’s corporate culture by helping the company become more collaborative and embrace a DevOps philosophy.
With Red Hat technologies, Swisscom has built a stable, reliable, and streamlined cloud environment, backed by professional expertise. Based on this success, the company plans to continue to work with Red Hat to make the most of its new, open ecosystem. Swisscom is now in a better position to meet customer demand effectively, embrace open source innovation, and take advantage of new opportunities for revenue. Read the full case study.
