Bringing SDN to Internet exchange points (IXPs) to revolutionize wide-area traffic delivery
Tuesday, April 26, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. PDT
If there is a more complex IP routing protocol than Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), network operators would be hard-pressed to find it. BGP constraints frequently complicate critical tasks such as traffic engineering, preventing attacks, and realizing peering agreements. An upcoming webinar will look at a revolutionary way to solve long-standing problems in inter domain routing by using software-defined networking (SDN).
The upcoming webinar will highlight iSDX, an industrial-scale software-defined Internet exchange point. Led by well-known SDN researchers at Princeton University (including Arpit Gupta, Professor Nick Feamster, and Professor Jennifer Rexford) the iSDX project deploys SDN at Internet exchange points (IXPs) to offer direct control over packet-processing rules that match on multiple header fields and perform a variety of actions. Project leaders chose to focus on IXPs because of the way they interconnect numerous networks and are becoming increasingly important in bringing popular content closer to end users.
iSDX’s capabilities enable new applications such as application-specific peering, and new programming abstractions allow participating networks to create and run applications with a runtime that both behaves correctly when interacting with BGP and ensures that applications do not interfere with each other. Researchers recently teamed up with the Open Networking Foundation (ONF)/Open Source SDN (OSSDN) to house iSDX code within the OpenSourceSDN.org code repository to make it available to the wider open source community for developing new use cases and applications.
The webinar will feature Nick Feamster, professor of computer science, and Arpit Gupta, leading researcher on iSDX. ONF Technical Program Manager Rick Bauer also will present portions of the webinar, which will look at:
- why the industry needs iSDX
- how iSDX compares to other initiatives in the SDN ecosystem today
- a short demo of iSDX
- iSDX in practice – a customer viewpoint
Register below for the webinar on Tuesday, April 26 at 10:00 a.m. PDT to learn more about how iSDX can revolutionize wide-area traffic delivery.
If you can’t take part in the live event, you can still register, and we will let you know when the webinar archive materials are up on SDxCentral.
