Learn more about Cisco OpFlex and what it means for the company’s software-defined networking (SDN) strategy. Here you’ll learn about OpFlex’s development, use cases, and other helpful insight on Cisco OpFlex.
In today’s fast-paced business environment, simply meeting the foundational IT responsibilities of maintaining and securing the network can be challenging enough. At the same time, it’s not enough. Today’s enterprises also look to IT to encompass a more strategic role by using technological resources to create new opportunities for the business. Cisco says this changing role needs a new networking model to make it happen.
Cisco launched the Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) to automate data center workloads at scale consistently and with visibility across physical and virtual deployments. In the video, Cisco brings together a collection of software-defined networking (SDN) heavy hitters to introduce ACI, explain how it differs from typical SDN models, and share ACI perspectives from both partners and actual customers.
Industry leader Soni Jiandani, senior vice president of marketing and business development for Cisco’s Insieme business unit, leads off the session to explain ACI in context of today’s business and networking environments. ACI’s open, policy-based approach is a transformative operational model that will bring greater agility, simplicity, and scale, she says, which in turn will drive multivendor innovation.
Cisco IT CIO Rebecca Jacoby provides the practitioner/CIO perspective on ACI, as Cisco IT provided the first major testing ground for the infrastructure. “The way technology is applied and being used today is bringing more productivity, but it’s also transitioning business models,” she says. “ACI technology is foundational to how we prepare going forward.”
The 90-minute session provides a real-world perspective on how ACI works in actual data centers. Technology executives from early ACI customers Acxiom, County of Riverside, Manteca Unified School District, Millennial Media, and SunGard talk about what they’ve learned from adopting the ACI framework in their own data centers and how their organizations used ACI to solve operational challenges.
Finally, the presentation features a panel of SDN leaders whose companies partnered with Cisco to develop OpFlex, the open policy protocol fundamental to ACI. Sharing insights on how ACI’s policy-based model works in multivendor data center environments, the panel brings together:
- Citrix: Sunil Potti, group vice president and general manager, NetScaler product group
- F5: Sangeeta Anand, senior vice president, product management and marketing
- IBM: Inder Gopal, vice president, networking development and technical strategy
- Microsoft: Mike Schutz, general manager – Windows server, management and appliances product marketing
- RedHat: Tim Burke, vice president, Linux and cloud engineering
Check out the video to hear from Cisco insiders, leading SDN executives, and real-world customers as they share their practical insights about deployment models, lessons, and best practices surrounding ACI’s policy-based model.
