eBrief: The State of Network Monitoring — Network Monitoring Gets More Detailed
In the new world of network virtualization, monitoring the network is becoming increasingly difficult. And traditional network monitoring tools may not provide the results that network operators want.
For a virtualized network, network monitoring tools have to go beyond devices and connections and delve into the applications and the network topology. Because of this, many tools are evolving so they can monitor more layers in the network.
Software-defined wide area networking (SD-WAN) is another area where network monitoring is getting an overhaul. Traditional tools are no longer able to provide the visibility necessary for a cloud-ready virtualized environment.
The next-generation of SD-WAN network monitoring includes monitoring traffic emulations for both internal and SaaS apps as well as keeping tabs on endpoints and remote connections.
Ultimately, the goal of any network monitoring tool should be to provide network operators with a single pane of glass that will allow them to rapidly evaluate the state of their network and provide fast detection as well as remediation of any problems.
