Does big switch work with VMWare NSX and VMware Cloud Foundation?
Yes, Big Cloud Fabric integrates with VMware NSX. Its an ideal underlay fabric for NSX overlay. You can find more details on www.bigswitch.com. We are working with VMware to support VMware Cloud Foundation.
Why would I use BigCloud rather than ONOS?
Big Cloud fabric brings multiple benefit as compared to ONOS. First of all, BCF is a fabric solution with SDN controller being a single pane of glass. Does ScaleIO work with VMware Cloud Foundation? Is vSAN an issue?
VSAN runs only on ESX. As VSAN is VMware’s software defined storage implementation, VMware Cloud Foundation support is limited to VSAN.
Does scaleio run in AWS/.Azure/GCP, etc?
ScaleIO can run in a public cloud for evaluation and testing purposes, but since both ScaleIO and public cloud providers provide data protection, running it on top of a public cloud provider would produce unnecessary data protection overhead.
Why do I need big switch if I have NSX?
NSX is SDN overlay solution. You still need physical underlay. That’s where BCF, an SDN underlay, comes in picture. You can manage all supported physical switches through SDN controller. Additionally, for NSX use case, BCF brings in underlay fabric visibility to overlay solution. You can get BCF integration with NSX demo and white papers from www.bigswitch.com/resources.
What is ScaleIO’s execution model when it has multiple types of storage? i.e. different IOPS per storage component. Does it allow VMs to request storage requirements and then orchestrates those requests to storage components that can handle those?
ScaleIO storage pools are defined according to the type of storage media in use. A storage pool may be all flash, all HDD, or HDD with read and write caches. All caches and media are evenly utilized, resulting in no hot spots. A REST API is available for storage orchestration.
In the demo, what kind of Dell servers did you use? What processors were running?
The management hosts were PowerEdge R630 while the ScaleIO nodes run on PowerEdge R730xd. Both platforms use the Intel Xeon E5-2500 v4, Haswell, microarchitecture.
Are multiple OS supported by ScaleIO?
Is ScaleIO capable of working with object storage?
No, ScaleIO is a block storage product.
Does Big Cloud Fabric support necessary QoS for ScaleIO?
