Mobile data traffic continues to increase in all regions. In fact, according to Ericsson’s November 2017 Mobility Report, monthly global mobile data traffic will surpass 100 exabytes (EB) by 2023. As the 5G future approaches, and virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies become widespread, content will become even more data-intensive.
Communications service providers (CSPs) need to quickly scale their network capabilities to meet this growing demand, but the networks are often hobbled by legacy architecture characterized by expensive hardware-based appliances with tightly embedded software. How can CSPs hope to compete when their networks are rigid and fragmented and offer limited scalability? Network functions virtualization (NFV) is the answer, helping CSPs overcome these issues by increasing infrastructure flexibility, efficiency, and scalability while also reducing costs and lowering innovation risks.
A new solution brief from Dell EMC and VMware discusses an innovative turnkey solution— Dell EMC NFV Ready Bundle for VMware —that is optimized to simplify and accelerate production deployments. Fully engineered, validated, tested, and documented by Dell EMC, the ready-to-use solution decreases CSPs’ investment and deployment risk and enables faster deployment. Dell EMC has built a fully integrated and validated solution that enables CSPs to immediately launch their own services on top of this NFV platform, instantly achieving greater flexibility, scalability, and agility.
The Dell EMC NFV Ready Bundle for VMware includes open standards-based Dell EMC cloud infrastructure hardware (compute, networking) and a choice of a Virtual Infrastructure Manager: You can select either VMware vCloud Director or VMware Integrated OpenStack, depending on which option best fits your VIM requirements. The solution is prescriptive, but it can be customized to address each customer’s unique virtual network function (VNF) workload requirements.
With this bundle, CSPs can accelerate infrastructure virtualization and NFV adoption.
