Virtualization is changing the way new communications services are built, deployed, and managed – and software platforms need to evolve to support this change. Our 2016 LSO & Next-Gen OSS Survey will gather the information to tell you what’s going to happen with next-generation operations support systems (OSSes) and Lifecycle Service Orchestration (LSO).
OSS software is the linchpin to many services in the communications space. Service providers around the world use OSS to launch, track, and manage service offerings and products. Underlying technologies such as networking and orchestration are useless unless they can tie elegantly into the OSS system.
There are big changes ahead for this market. Software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) technology has shifted game from proprietary, physical hardware to the virtualized layer, where there are fewer standards for connecting to established OSS software. This offers the opportunity to develop new, open standards and application programming interfaces (APIs) that can connect OSS and SDN/NFV. At the same time, emerging LSO standards are being designed to enable services to be deployed end-to-end, across carrier networks that may be using a variety of hardware and software platforms.
This is your opportunity to tell us what you think of next-gen OSS and LSO, as well as any technology needs you see. The results of the survey will contribute to the market analysis in the 2017 LSO & Next-gen OSS report.
Some of the things we hope to learn from the survey:
- Which OSS software is most widely adopted?
- What exactly is LSO and how does it relate to OSS?
- Which vendors are seen as leaders in next-gen OSS and LSO?
- What are the current challenges in integrating SDN/NFV with LSO?
- What is likely to happen to spending on software for OSS and LSO?
- How important are standardized APIs to the development of interoperability of virtualized services?
