5G represents a new generation of mobile networks and promises always-on connectivity with diverse capabilities, from supporting low latencies to high bandwidth. And while the radio technologies and standardization are still in progress and expected to only mature in 2020, there are significant efforts underway across the major communication service providers worldwide to roll out new infrastructure based on technologies like SDN (software-defined networking) and NFV (network functions virtualization) that lay the foundation for realizing 5G networks.
Since 5G is still in development and in flux, instead of an industry report which includes our usual compendium of leading vendor products, we’ve decided to publish our 5G report as a special report that instead provides visions and strategies from some of the key vendors in the space.
This report provides a view of the top use cases for 5G including IoT, always-on broadband connectivity as well as augmented reality and virtual reality. We also provide a summary view of the 5G deployment status across the 10 leading global service providers and examine the role of NFV and SDN in 5G rollouts as well as expected developments in 5G over the next few years.
We’d like to offer special thanks to our sponsors, who enable us to present the community with extensive, independent, and totally FREE research
In addition to downloading the 5G Special Report, we encourage you to check out our brand new eBook, 5G: Moving from Vision to Reality. This is the first of many complimentary SDxCentral eBooks that will touch on the latest trends and topics in the industry, and that provide a nice complement to our comprehensive Industry and Special Reports series which provide more foundational and deeper coverage of the hottest topics. The 5G eBook is complimentary, and available for download on SDxCentral.com.
We hope you enjoy both the 5G Special Report, as well as the 5G eBook.
