Need to move print content online? Looking at how to build an app, or distribute your content to the tablet world? I just finished an investigation into tablet publishing tools for CMSWire. Check it out.

Basically, if you are a magazine or other print publisher, you are trying to figure out how to migrate tons of content to the tablet world, if not set up an entirely new tablet based publishing system.

You have several choices. They are:

  • Build a sophisticated and beautiful publishing app of your own, which can work on iPad, Android, or Amazon. This generaly requires more expensive software that comes in existing publishing suites, such as Adobe's Digital Publishing Suite (DPS).
  • Use a tablet app aggregator/facilitator. Theses are springing up everywhere. They included services such as Zinio and Flipboard. The goal of these companies is to integrate the entire tablet app business model -- the tradeoff is that their conversions of print content will be somewhat simplistic and may not allow for a lot of customization.
  • Explore other publishing conversion tools, which basically allow you to take print content and convert it into an app that can be easily digestible on a tablet. This includes companies such as PixelMags.
